Endodontics
What is Endodontics?
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases and conditions of the teeth’s soft inner tissue, known as the dental pulp, and the gum tissue surrounding the roots of the teeth. Dentists who specialize in root canal treatment are called endodontists.
Training & Techniques
Endodontic treatment (root canal therapy) involves removing the nerve, blood vessels, and lymph tissue that comprise the dental pulp and replacing it with a filling material. In the past, diseased and injured teeth typically had to be removed. Today, advances in tools, training, and techniques mean that it is often possible that even severely damaged teeth can be preserved with root canal therapy and other endodontic procedures.
